For FIFO workers
Your roster matters. We work around it.
Many men who come to Perth Vasectomy work fly-in fly-out. The clinic is built for it.
How it works
Planning around your break
A standard 2-week R&R is more than enough for most men. Have the procedure early in your break – giving maximum recovery before you fly back out.
1
Contact us before your break
Call or book online. Give us your roster dates and we’ll find the right window.
2
Procedure early in your R&R
Day 1 or 2 of your break gives you 12–13 days of recovery before returning to site.
3
Recover during your time off
Desk workers mobile in 2–3 days. Physical roles vary – discuss with Dr Indi.
4
Semen analysis at 12 & 16 weeks
Any lab, any swing. We provide the referral – no return visit needed.
Built around how you actually live
If you’re FIFO, you already know how hard it is to fit anything medical into your life. You’re on site when the clinics are open, and home for too short a window to book anything that needs follow-up.
A vasectomy with Dr Indi is different. The consultation and procedure can be booked on the same swing home, or split across two if you’d prefer to think it over first. Recovery is straightforward – most men are back to desk-based activity within 2 to 3 days, and the 12-week semen analysis is done at any participating pathology provider with no clinic visit required.
If you’re doing physical work on a mine site, Dr Indi will give you a clear, specific return-to-work timeline at discharge – something you can show your employer if needed.
How it works for FIFO patients
Many FIFO men book a consultation during one swing home and the procedure during the next. That’s entirely fine – there’s no pressure to do both at once. If your swing gives you enough time, the consultation and procedure can also be completed in the same visit.
Dr Indi understands that your roster is not flexible. Appointments at Perth Vasectomy are scheduled with that in mind – early availability, clear timings, and a clinic that doesn’t keep you waiting.
The procedure itself takes 20 to 30 minutes. Allow 90 minutes at the clinic in total. You’ll go home the same day with a care pack, written discharge instructions, and direct contact details if anything comes up before you fly back out.
Returning to site
Recovery timeline for physical roles varies depending on the nature of the work. Dr Indi will discuss this with you specifically at your consultation – but as a general guide:
- Sedentary and light duties: 2 to 3 days
- Moderate physical work: approximately 1 week
- Heavy manual labour and physical site work: 1 to 2 weeks, assessed individually
A medical certificate can be provided on the day if required by your employer or site.
Flying after a vasectomy is generally fine within a few days, provided you are comfortable and there are no complications. Dr Indi will confirm this is appropriate before you travel.

FAQ's
Your Questions Answered
Considering a vasectomy is a significant decision, and it’s natural to have questions. Whether you’re just starting to explore your options or you’ve already made up your mind and want to know what to expect, we’re here to help you feel informed and confident every step of the way.
Can I fly after a vasectomy?
Flying is generally suitable within a few days of a no-scalpel vasectomy, provided recovery is straightforward and you are comfortable. Dr Indi will confirm this is appropriate before you travel. If your flight is the day after the procedure, discuss this at your consultation so timing can be planned accordingly.
Can I have the consultation and procedure in the same swing?
Yes. If your swing home gives you sufficient time, the consultation and procedure can be completed in the same visit. Many FIFO patients prefer this approach. Alternatively, the consultation can be held during one swing and the procedure scheduled for the next – whichever suits your roster.
How soon can I return to physical work on a mine site?
Return to heavy manual labour and physical site work is typically 1 to 2 weeks, assessed individually based on the nature of your role. Dr Indi will give you a specific timeline at discharge. A medical certificate can be provided on the day if required by your employer or site manager.
How long does recovery take?
Most men are back to sedentary activity within 2 to 3 days. Moderate physical work approximately 1 week. Full activity including heavy lifting and strenuous exercise is generally suitable after 1 to 2 weeks. Recovery varies between individuals and Dr Indi will advise based on your specific role.
Can I drive myself to the clinic?
You can drive yourself to the clinic, but you cannot drive yourself home after the procedure. Please arrange a driver or use a rideshare service. If you’re staying locally during your swing, an Uber home is perfectly fine.
Do I need a GP referral?
No referral is required. FIFO patients can book directly with Perth Vasectomy without seeing their GP first.
What happens at the 12-week semen analysis if I'm back on site?
The semen analysis is conducted at any participating pathology provider – there is no requirement to return to the Perth Vasectomy clinic. If you are home for a swing at the 12-week mark, you can attend any participating pathology service. Results are reviewed and communicated by Dr Indi directly.
What if something doesn't feel right while I'm back on site?
You will be discharged with direct contact details for the clinic. Mild discomfort and swelling in the first few days is normal. If you have any concerns while on site, the clinic can advise over the phone. In a genuine emergency, attend your nearest medical service.
Is there anything I need to bring to my appointment?
Your Medicare card and any relevant medical history. No referral required. Preparation instructions will be sent to you after booking – they are simple and straightforward.
Can I book outside of regular business hours?
Please call 08 6114 0533 or email hello@perthvasectomy.com.au to discuss scheduling. Perth Vasectomy understands FIFO availability is not always Monday to Friday and will do its best to accommodate your swing dates.
